Rakikò

Yesterday I went to the tasting of this wonderful appetizer, I reckon it’s my favourite one of all from now.

Taking advantage of the “Feria” in Mondovì, I could properly visit and have some information, I even bought a bottle, I won’t tell you the purpose hehe

Rakikò, la specialità monregalese…

Rakikò is a slightly bitter and very pleasant digestive, a moderately alcoholic infusion of digestive herbs.
The name already indicates a sort of genuine but somewhat exotic mix: Rakikò is the acronym for Rhubarb, Kina and …
Be that as it may, at the base of the drink there is the rhubarb root to which the cinchona bark is added (at the time it was spelt “Kina”) … with a vague and fascinating reminder of the Far East.
In addition to cinchona and rhubarb, wormwood and other herbs that are not disclosed find space and aroma to an adequate extent.

Rakikò liqueur was born in 1895 in a small café in Mondovì and is now included in the guide of historic Italian restaurants.

Currently, on sale at the most remarkable bars and restaurants in Mondovì, also Piedmont, this aperitif and tonic is appreciated by a large Italian and now also the international public.

How to drink it

You can either pour it with a slice of lemon, orange, or ice, or even more creative: have a RAKIKOCTAIL!

Here I leave you some ideas:

RAKIKò-SPRITZ

  • A big glass of wine
  • Cube ice
  • 40 ml of Rakikò
  • 60 ml of Prosecco
  • “sprintsen” of Seltz
  • 1 slice of orange

RAKIKò-GOJDESSE

  • One highball glass
  • 40 ml of Rakikò
  • 20 ml of Southern Comfort
  • 2 drops of Tabasco
  • 2 slices of orange
  • 2 lumps of sugar
  • Ginger Ale
  • You decorate it with a rosemary stick and a twist of lemon
  • Procedure: Lay down at the bottom 2 slices of orange and the sugar, pour 2 drops of tabasco, and step on with delicacy, pour Rakikò, fill up with ginger ale and complete the process with southern comfort.

You can contact the establishment via email or phone call, or buy online.

For those who prefer to visit the place: Via Funicolare 2L- Mondovì, province of Cuneo. The customers are so kind and the place is lovely, with a vintage style, I love it!

Have a wonderful week, and remember, life is more fascinating while enjoying a fresh glass of good liquor.
