Hey there!
Last week I was in Eastbourne for my husband’s cricket tour, The truth is I’m still not a fan of cricket but I enjoy exploring, so I took a day off to explore the surroundings and I loved this place.

Eastbourne is a picturesque town and seaside resort located in East Sussex on England’s southern coast, situated 19 miles (31 km) east of Brighton and 54 miles (87 km) south of London. It also functions as a local government district with borough status. The town is nestled just east of Beachy Head, the highest chalk sea cliff in Great Britain, and forms part of the expansive Eastbourne Downland Estate.
The seafront is renowned for its Victorian hotels, a historic pier, a theatre, a contemporary art gallery, and a Napoleonic-era fort that now houses a military museum. Despite being a relatively modern town, archaeological evidence reveals human presence dating back to the Stone Age. Eastbourne’s development as a fashionable tourist destination can be largely attributed to William Cavendish, who later became the Duke of Devonshire. Cavendish commissioned architect Henry Currey to design the town’s layout, sending him to Europe beforehand to gather architectural inspiration. The resulting street plan, with its predominantly Victorian architecture, remains one of Eastbourne’s most distinctive and cherished features.
I must also say that we stayed at a very charming hotel, far away from the hustle and bustle of the town, but still charming. We had a double room with a sea view, and the English breakfast was delightful.
If you ever visit Eastbourne for business or holidays, I recommend this hotel: Beamsley Lodge.

Eastbourne Pier
My exploration started by stopping at the Pier
Eastbourne Pier is a stunning Victorian landmark that extends gracefully into the English Channel, offering visitors panoramic sea views, charming cafés, and vibrant entertainment. Opened in 1870, this iconic structure is the heart of Eastbourne’s seafront, where history meets the seaside charm. Whether you’re enjoying a leisurely stroll or catching a sunset, the pier’s timeless appeal makes it a must-visit destination.

The Royal Hippodrome Theatre

The Royal Hippodrome Theatre, Eastbourne’s oldest theatre, is a gem of Victorian architecture and culture. Opened in 1883, this charming venue has a rich history of hosting variety shows, musicals, and performances that captivate audiences of all ages. With its beautifully preserved interiors and vibrant program, the Royal Hippodrome continues to be a beloved cultural hub, offering a nostalgic yet lively experience in the heart of the town.
Towner Eastbourne
Towner Eastbourne is a dynamic contemporary art gallery that blends cutting-edge exhibitions with a vibrant community spirit. Known for its striking modern architecture and diverse art collection, Towner showcases both emerging and established artists, making it a cultural beacon on the South Coast. Whether you’re an art enthusiast or simply curious, Towner Eastbourne offers an inspiring and immersive experience that invites you to explore the world of contemporary art freshly and excitedly.
The visit is free of charge.

Emma Stibbon’s work, showcased at Towner Eastbourne, explores the powerful and often fragile relationship between natural landscapes and human impact. Known for her large-scale drawings and prints, Stibbon captures the raw beauty and looming changes in environments like glaciers, volcanoes, and coastlines. Her work at Towner offers a contemplative view of the environmental shifts happening in today’s world, inviting viewers to reflect on the intersection of nature and time.
After my art gallery exploration between the ice and the cliff, I headed to see another art gallery but I realized I was so famished so I stopped close to the art Gallery to have some vegan tacos with a vanilla oat milkshake. It was so delicious! 😋

Nigel Greaves Gallery
Nigel Greaves Gallery is a hidden gem in Eastbourne, where contemporary art meets personal expression. Located near the seafront, the gallery showcases the vibrant and imaginative works of Nigel Greaves, whose bold use of colour and texture captivates visitors. Whether you’re an art enthusiast or just curious, this intimate gallery offers a unique and inspiring experience that leaves a lasting impression.
My plan today included watching a performance at the Eastbourne Bandstand, but I made the mistake of wearing ballerina flats, so I decided to head back to the hotel. As I was walking back, I suddenly heard live music drifting through the air. Intrigued, I followed the sound and, to my surprise, it led me right back to the Bandstand—the very place I thought I would miss. A band was playing, and it was the perfect, unexpected way to end my day. I couldn’t have asked for a better conclusion.
