Indeed, as you’re reading this, I can proudly announce myself as a scientist.
In my previous post regarding Madeira, I mentioned that my graduation took place on April 16th, in Turin, Italy. It’s remarkable how I managed to prepare my presentation, or rather, my speech, in less than three days! The nerves were palpable, and my professor had me on edge (though in truth, he was simply concerned and eager to draw out my full potential), but as soon as I concluded the presentation of my thesis and was officially declared a ‘dottoressa’ in material science, a wave of relief washed over me.
I am immensely grateful for the triumphs of this month: I exchanged vows in a UNESCO World Heritage church, completed my university education, and am now bidding farewell to Italy. Yet, there are still more adventures and surprises on the horizon. Hopefully, I’ll find the time to share them with you, my cherished followers. I owe a debt of gratitude to you all; during my darkest moments, your unwavering support and readership sustained me. Thank you!
My journey as an international student in Italy (despite not being Italian myself) was fraught with challenges. The educational system here is rather archaic and punitive, and from my very first exam, I encountered the hostility of xenophobia. Regrettably, my experience isn’t unique; many individuals from other countries who came for the ERASMUS program returned home deeply affected.
Nevertheless, I refused to succumb to adversity! In the face of adversity and discrimination, maintaining optimism and perseverance is paramount. Throughout my studies, I underwent significant personal growth, learning invaluable lessons from both the positive and negative experiences.
So, onwards to new adventures! Congratulations, Little Giglio!
