Civil wedding

As I mentioned before, I just got married on the 24th of August!! 👰

I was really nervous, we decided to get married in Porto as I’m a Portuguese citizen and he is English, it was way more easier to do it that way. Otherwise, we’d be still waiting to get married in Italy.

For this time, we didn’t invite anyone, other than my mother, brother and two siblings of my husband, who were the witnesses for the civil registration.

Our departure to Porto was due on 22nd August, me and my family wore matching shirts, which were very cute.

Love this setup with my favourite colour!! 💜

We got on the plane and went straight to the hotel with my husband after we arrived in Porto (he was at the airport before us, we took different flights, me and family from Italy and him from England).

On the 23rd of August, the plan was to find a good restaurant to have lunch after the ceremony (my lawyer saved the day choosing a restaurant for us, she’s the sweetest!!); do the different proofs for my hair, and have a hair treatment, manicure and pedicure.

After this, we explored some museums, we didn’t have enough time so we chose to do only two: Chocolate Story (where I was surprised they recognised where the true cacao and chocolate came from) and Pink Palace, highly recommended 💯

If you want to visit, take a look at WOW Cultural District- Porto, they offer different tours around 7 dynamic museums.

Then the day finally arrived, My wedding was due at 11 am, and the hairstylist and makeup artist got in my room at 7 am to get me ready, I chose to put my hair high but not too much elaborated, sort of a princess classic style and a simple- natural makeup, I don’t like too much, while I was getting ready my mum received my bouquet and other flowers (I ADORED THESE FLOWERS, they had a wonderful aroma), my maid of honour and the photographer were also there in the room.

My husband and company were not allowed to see me before I got there, tradition says it’s bad luck to see the bride before the ceremony. When we were ready, my husband and siblings got in a Van, and, the photographer, my mum and I got in the car of our dearest family friend, Miguel.

The civil wedding took about 1 hour and a half, more than what we expected, it was an emotional moment, I wanted to cry more than once, luckily my husband’s family had an interpreter so the judge could explain the Portuguese law without problems.

The ceremony ended with lots of hugs, and lots of rice on my dress and hair as well, but in great happiness, we preferred to have lunch before the toast on the boat, as we finished later than expected at the registered office.

The restaurant: A Margem, I highly recommend, had a lovely view of the river, the food was fresh, presentable and delicious, and they have good pricing. Thanks to Doce alto for the delicious cakes for my wedding and for my mum’s birthday, we got married on my mum’s birthday, that was her birthday present.

We continued the day by getting on a boat, two of my husband’s siblings had to leave because they had the flight, at least they had lunch together.

The tour around the Douro River was so much fun, Lots of Spanish people were on the boat asking for passionate kisses and singing along with my Portuguese lawyer, They were so impressed I’m a flamenco dancer 😂 I’m just going to clarify they were 3 languages at once during this wedding 🥵

We raise a toast in our honour and for mum 💓

The last activity of the day was a tour of wine at Calem, which is one of the famous brands of Port wine with the Fado show, My dad always talked about it but I’ve never seen one before, which was very nice and nostalgic, I loved every bit of this day, getting married to the love of my life, being with my beloved ones, I’m so grateful and blessed for my lawyers, friends and family for this.

Huge thanks to Ilaria, who made my wedding dress look like a fairy tale, her work is amazing, check out her IG.

THANKS TO EVERYONE who made this possible 💖🥂

I love you all 💖

Also, the people around Vilanova de Gaia were very sweet and kind 💖 I walked too much as well, I was so tired afterwards but it was worth it and I would do it again!

Thanks, Porto, for being like my second home 🏠

I leave you some photos and favourite moments of the day here, wish you a lovely weekend! And let me know in the comments if you’d like some details about the next ceremony 😏

Athens

Unlike Santorini, Athens has an excellent public transport system, reliable, affordable, and incredibly useful for getting around the city. We arrived late on the 6th of November, so our real exploring began the following day. Before diving into the highlights, here are a couple of things worth knowing: On the way to the first museum,…

Santorini in 3 days

We recently visited Santorini for the first time and fell in love with every moment. Before diving into what makes this island so special, I’d like to share a few tips. That being said, we stayed for 3 and a half days. Here’s what we explored: We stayed at a beautiful place called Blue Eyes…

Elvaston Castle

A Forgotten Gothic Treasure of Derbyshire Tucked away in the quiet Derbyshire countryside lies Elvaston Castle, a once-glorious Gothic Revival masterpiece now resting in a state of faded grandeur. Surrounded by 200 acres of rolling parkland, whispering woodlands, and formal gardens that still hold a touch of their former elegance, the castle is the heart…
